Young Life Colorado Springs and Monument

Did I mention I'm a huge fan of Young Life?

Here's why. Teenagers test everything. They ask the best questions about God, church and everything else and they'll argue until the cows come home.

That's not a problem. It's the point. Half the time they're asking just to find out whether you'll hand them a tired cliché or engage with them. But "Jesus loves you" doesn't always land on a fifteen-year-old just because it's true.

Young Life is a community of people who love kids and earn the right to talk about Jesus by being available and being fun. We go where kids already are — the schools, the bleachers, the lunch table, the parking lot after practice.

Our goal is to help every kid at every age, from junior high to college, look up from their digital rectangles long enough to ask themselves who Jesus is to them.

Wendi and I are on the committee for North Colorado Springs and Monument. Five ways to plug in.

QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK ME

A Christian outreach to middle school, high school, and college kids, started in 1941 and headquartered here in Colorado Springs. Volunteer leaders show up in kids' lives, week after week, and earn the right to talk about Jesus. Club every week, camp in the summer.
North Springs and Monument works with Air Academy, Rampart, Pine Creek, Discovery Canyon, The Classical Academy, Lewis-Palmer, and Palmer Ridge. Current list and staff: nsm.younglife.org/find-us
Leaders are local adults, mostly college students and young professionals, interviewed, trained, and background-checked before they're ever alone with kids. Every school's current leader is listed with an email link at nsm.younglife.org/find-us — WyldLife (middle school) and Capernaum (our ministry for kids of all abilities) too. Committee is the local adults who support the leaders so they can spend their time with kids — that's my role. Want to lead or join committee? Email Brian Ford, our area director.
An hour a week of loud games, music, and a short talk, usually in somebody's house or a school gym. It's designed so a kid who's never set foot in a church doesn't feel like the odd one out.
Young Life camps are week-long adventures where kids get away from the pressures of everyday life, have fun with friends and their Young Life leaders, and hear the message of God's love in terms they can understand. Many describe it as the best week of their lives.
Experiencing camp as an adult at one of the beautiful adult guest lodges is a great way to see camp in action! If you're interested, let's grab coffee with Brian Ford, the NSM Area Director, to talk.
Local business sponsorships provide the fuel for serving families in Northern Colorado Springs and Monument. Local gifts stay here and are used for staff, ministry operations, and camp scholarships.
Several ways to get your business name in front of local families: VIP destination events like fly fishing in Wyoming, relationship events like the annual Flying Horse Golf Tournament and the annual Banquet and Silent Auction where kids tell their stories, and monthly brand visibility in our newsletter.
Sponsorship levels are in the range of $1K to $25K each year. Let's grab coffee and find the level that fits.
No. Most aren't when they start. Club is walk-in and nobody takes attendance.
No. It doesn't replace one or compete with one. Leaders come from churches all over the area.
No. Leaders say what they believe and why, then kids ask hard questions and draw their own conclusions. That's the design. Young Life's child-safety standards are public: younglife.org/about/keeping-kids-safe
